For that matter this story is also the Professor trying to figure out how he has those skills too.

Luddeccea, always a religious and anti-technology planet seems to have gone full on paranoid and totalitarian. Archangel Down is a suspenseful science fiction novel! Connor might be the wrong man for the colony, but he's the right man to see that it survives what's coming. I look forward to reading more about her in the rest of the series.

Every step of the way they are haunted by the final words of a secret transmission: The archangel is down. I expected to get thrown out on my ass. I think this is a terrible way to treat your readers read:customers. She received emails, messages and reviews from her fans telling her she should 'do this professionally'. It starts out on the world of Luddeccea which seems to have be the kind of space colony that you might have found in a space-opera version of The Handmaid's Tale. Erik and Rugrat are not immune to those feelings, but they have stepped into chaos so many times, it is simply a different challenge.
Friends and crewmates scattered light-years apart. Their alien trainers don't care how many of them survive, they only care that they can fight. That being said, I really enjoyed the read. I wasn't sure about this collection as I am not a real fan of the genre but I was really surprised. Light-years away from the fighting, mechanic Landry Stanton lives a peaceful, mundane life on the desolate planet Procyon One, and that's just the way he likes it. While it does have some interesting points, my main emotion on reading this was a sense of frustration for the lack of answers about anything of note. Despite spending so many hours with these characters with none of the central mysteries even slightly resolved, I feel no urge to continue with the series.

But on the conservative planet Luddeccea, a mysterious presence that takes control of the Time Gate leads them to revert to earlier technology and an authoritarian government. The most talented code breaker her people have. Commander Noa Sato plans a peaceful leave on her home planet, Luddeccea, but winds up interrogated and imprisoned for her involvement in the Archangel Project. Humanity has expanded into the stars, inhabiting over 100 worlds across a third of the galaxy.
I've already downloaded the next in series. A cyborg soldier on a quest to regain his humanity. Not all that different nor outst Technical nitpicking. Galaxies away, Loki is waking up in a prison cell, strangely without a hangover and with no idea what he's done wrong - this time, anyway. I think part of the problem for me was the fact that the story itself didn't seem to have a concrete shape.
