Archived from on October 21, 2017. But yeah, really good stuff on this one -- it's catchy, the harmonies are great, Rivers' voice doesn't miss a note here, and the guitar work here is pretty nice. Overall, the album is pretty good. I agree with a lot of the reviews saying the album works better as a whole, but having listened to most of the album as standalone tracks, they are also pretty solid tracks too. I love each song from Side B with the weird yet catchy riffs and unforgettable songs. Get Right has a kinda radio dance-song vibe, and it's a shame that they took a softer approach to the production here because despite being kinda cheesy at first, the song really grows on you. Beach boys and happy hour are awful , anyway there are some good songs like mexican guitars , sweet mary it has some of the worst weezer work.
I love the ending part though. It's a nice change of pace I think. While it might lean towards the bottom half, after a first listen and a lot of single listens it seems really fun and accessible. I'm sure people will disagree, but at the very least I think this is not Weezer's worst album. However it's just not to my taste. Weezers latest might well be their most underwhelming and disappointing. Overall I really like this song, the harmonies rock.
Surely everyone would get tired of the same sounding album every time? Congrats Weezer for somehow making your worst album after releasing two of your best. Overall I really like this song, the harmonies rock. The album isn't pushing any boundaries, but it sounds musically distinct in respect to the rest of Weezer's discography. I think there aren't too many memorable moments or standout tracks on the album apart from the really bad ones—looking at you Beach Boys , but I'm pleasantly surprised by the second half. I still don't see the appeal of Weekend Woman, and Feels Like Summer -- a song I actually enjoyed when it dropped -- has really worn out it's welcome at this point. It all just feels weak and limp and held back from being memorable or bombastic, which is certainly what I want from a Weezer album! Beach boys and happy hour are awful , anyway there are some good songs like mexican guitars , sweet mary or weekend woman.
In a perfect world, it would have been the closing track on a much stronger release. But at first glance some songs are ok, while the majority just instantly caught me. If they made a different mix for the album version, like they did for keep fishing to make that fit in with maladroit, I would've enjoyed the album a lot more. Since I made a thread like this for the White Album and it went well, I think that it's a good idea to try it again for the new album. I still don't see the appeal of Weekend Woman, and Feels Like Summer -- a song I actually enjoyed when it dropped -- has really worn out it's welcome at this point. Edit 2: I think it's safe to say that 'Side B' could definitely appeal to people much more than 'Side A'. But other times, like lead off single Feels Like Summer, where the pop sound just falls flat on it's face. Please if you have any questions or concerns. Honestly if you like pop and rock, this is your album. I mean it's not really the direction I wanted from the band, but at the same time this is nowhere as awful as Make Believe or Raditude! For the band to be at its full potential, though, the songwriter needs to reflect more on the takeaways of experiences rather than the moments themselves. The songs at their heart aren't a radical departure from any other songs in their discography, they're just using different sounds to present them, which I think is great.
But yeah, really good stuff on this one -- it's catchy, the harmonies are great, Rivers' voice doesn't miss a note here, and the guitar work here is pretty nice. Deep songs have been written by Cuomo and Co. No, this is Weezer going pop on their own terms. The album isn't pushing any boundaries, but it sounds musically distinct in respect to the rest of Weezer's discography. My main problem with it is that Feels Like Summer really ruins the cohesion of the album and sticks out like a sore thumb. From the singles, I like Mexican Fender and Weekend Woman. Oh and Scott's bass is fucking clean on the whole album.
It really just drives each song forward and I love it. Pacific Daydream is still dark and, at times, experimental, but only in the sense that it occasionally sheds the quirks Weezer have become known for in favor of generic indie-pop largely targeting the same college radio stations inhabited by bands like Twenty One Pilots and Fitz and the Tantrums. I was actually looking for choruses that will probably get stuck in my head like Wind in the Sail, Girl We Got A Good Thing, King of the World, Summer Elaine and Drunk Dori, etc. Edit 3: Speaking of scaling back electronic effects, I thought La Mancha Screwjob was about to make me eat my words, but the electronic elements -- on a first listen -- only appear to be on the very beginning and end of the track, that's it although there is a pitched up background vocal on the hook.
Or, you could do some searching! Easily my least favorite album. A solo and heavier guitars might have actually made it one of the best modern-era Weezer songs. It's such a huge departure from their 'original' style i. But keep in mind, Weezer are at this point in time that they can release whatever they want. But it doesn't have those, so, alas.

I'll give it more credit than most fans because I kind of get where the band was coming from and there are plenty of great ideas and even tunes here. It's definitely a bit of a misstep after their last two rock solid albums, but I don't think it's the complete bomb it was predicted to be. It's not their best, but I think I'll be listening to Side B for a while. Title Writer s Producer s Length 1.
Pacific Daydream, in spite of its name, mostly just gives you a feeling of being nowhere. Edit 5: I guess it depends what vibe you're going for, but I could certainly see people that were scared off or disappointed by the first half of the record actually enjoying the second half much more. Kinda like Paramore's After Laughter but not awful. Any Friend of Diane's is a good song, but not a good closer, which is a disappointing by Weezer standards. Not only have they proven that with a radically different and very inconsistent discography.
